Alabama JumpStart would like to express appreciation to Gov. Kay Ivey, Mr. Joe Borg and Mr. Dan Lord with the Alabama Securities Commission for making April’s “Teach Children to Save” month proclamation, which addresses “Facts on Saving and Investing Campaign”.
About Us
The Alabama Jump$tart Coalition is a non-profit organization that was established in December 2002 in Alabama to increase financial education in kindergarten through college. The Alabama Jump$tart Coalition is an independent affiliate of the national Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy. The national Jump$tart Coalition is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1995, the coalition includes more than 100 national partners and a network of 51 state affiliates that share a commitment to #afinlitfuture and to working collaboratively toward common goals.
MISSION STATEMENT: The Alabama Jump$tart Coalition seeks to increase financial literacy for all K-16 students in Alabama by collaborating with other organizations in Alabama to promote financial literacy.
VISION STATEMENT: The Alabama Jump$tart Coalition envisions a time when all Alabama young people will be financially literate and equipped to achieve lifetime financial goals upon graduation from high school.
Financial Education Requirements
In 2014, the State of Alabama passed a requirement that all students in 9th grade would be required to take a Career Preparedness class. This class teaches youth skills for career exploration and financial education and is currently a requirement for graduation.
Activities
The Alabama Jump$tart Coalition is active throughout the year with workshops, projects and meetings.
1. ACTE’s Teacher’s Summer Conference “Day of Financial Literacy Training” in July at the Mobile Convention Center.
2. April is “Teach Children to Save” month in Alabama. The actual day is April 27, 2023.
3. October is “Get Smart about Credit” month in Alabama.
4. Statewide meeting for AJC volunteers to meet and network with other members and friends from across the State of Alabama is being planned for fall 2023.
5. Student workshops held in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Education.
